Men: Fall’s “Preppy” Trend

The preppy trend is great for all men especially the working professional, who can let a little more style seep into their attire while still maintaining professionalism. Adding color is key, it’s a perfect marriage for those who love style and want to go a little bit out of the norm.

Get the look:

  • Pair a suit with a colorful sweater instead of a button down shirt
  • Wear a cardigan with a colorful accent and khakis or a colorful tie
  • Compliment a button down shirt with colorful khakis

Summer to Fall Fashion

We seem to be out of the 100 degree heat, but Fall usually takes a little longer to make its way to Oklahoma. While we’re waiting to don those cute cooler-weather styles, here’s a list of items you’ll be able to get more mileage out of:

Floral Blouse
Dress up your favorite shorts with a sweet rose-print top in this warmer weather, but when the temperature drops layer the blouse with a thin turtleneck and a fuzzy vest.

Shorts
A necessity in blistering heat. Add dark stockings and a closed toe shoe. You could also pair your favorite shorts with boots and layer your top with a sweater and shirt or jean jacket.

Shirtdress
Stay cool and classy in a crisp button-front dress. Worn as a lightweight long jacket, the dress adds serious style to jeans.

Tunic
Add a scarf and a belt to bring the breezy top into fall.

Maxi Dress
Maximize the maxi dress by adding a chunky sweater, cardigan, jean  or light leather jacket and wear it year round.

White Jeans
Don’t put them away yet! Match your white jeans with fall-winter pieces like a leather jacket, paisley scarf, and thin sweater.

Floaty Dress
Perfect on its own through summer. Add a thin sweater, belt, tights and boots make the transformation to fall complete.

For all others, add a jean jacket or tailored blazer (velvet, corduroy, and leather are good picks) and remember: fall is all about layers.

Men’s Fall Fashion Trends 2011

In the fashion world, trends come and go but the key essentials from these trends have the potential to be timeless, classic pieces.

Below you will find a set of autumn/winter trends that are popular nearly every year. Use these in your wardrobe to create a classic look for the colder months of the year. You may even be able to integrate these items in to your spring/summer wardrobes.

Military
The Military trend is still going strong, and is sure to be in full force this winter.
Key items: Earthy colors (grays and greens), tough boots and thick scarves.

Preppy
The preppy trend refuses to die. With its pastel colors and smart, yet casual vibe, it’s a classic look which is so easy to adopt for many men, for almost any occasion.
Key items: Casual tailored shirts and polos in interesting color combinations. Similar to the Military look, layering is a large part of the preppy trend; tees under cardigans and shirts under knitwear always look great.

Office
In recent years the ‘skinny suit’ has reigned supreme, and to a certain degree, tight fitting tailored suits will never fall out of favor with the fashion conscious. However there is a new kid on the block, in the form of more casual unstructured suits.
Key items: Carrot fit trousers combined with unstructured casual blazers can make for a smart, yet very stylish statement.
