I was visiting my friend, Nancy’s website and she posted this great article about dressing for your body type. I wanted to pass it on for my readers to enjoy. Here you go:
Dressing for Your Body Type. Do You Know Yours?
The way to look your best is to dress for your body type. There are only 2 types: an apple or a pear. Even when you gain or lose weight, you will always keep your type. Learning what you type is and how to dress for it can make you happier, dress easier, and feel less stressed!
Apple body: An apple carries your weight in the upper 1/2 of your body and you have thinner legs. By keeping your legs looking thin in slim pants or jeans can help you look pounds thinner. Consider wearing tops that are fitted but not tight. One trick for tops is to wear a cardigan or jacket over your tank or tee. Sometimes apples think they will look thinner if they wear fuller tops, but actually you can look heavier. Try on things in both of these categories and you will see the difference. The thin leg pants is the key. Wearing a column-of-color (same color head to toe) is also a slimming look for apples. Then add another color for a jacket or sweater. Black tops are a very slimming look. Wear a black under top everyday if you want. That will keep your apple shape slimmer. Apples look good in slim skirts. Sometimes a slim skirt needs to be wedged slimmer at the knee to look best. Trust your store where you shop about this, or have a good alteration person to help.
Pear body: A pear is thinner in the upper 1/2 of your body and has fuller hips. Keep your top 1/2 fitted and wear fuller leg pants. They need to fit, but not be too tight. A flare leg in the pant helps even out your hips. Sometimes pears think they need to try to “hide” their hips with longer tops. When actually you can look leaner by wearing tops that come to the hips instead of longer. A skirt shape that is good for a pear is fit-and-flare. That means it is fitted in the hip area and flares at the knee. This is a great way to even out your shape.
Whatever your body type, embrace it. Learn to dress for it. The women who look the best know their body type and dress accordingly. When you find your fit that’s best for you, stick with it. Just because a style looks great on your friend, doesn’t mean it is right for you. When you look good, you feel good about yourself. When you feel good about yourself, you look good. Find your sense of style!
